Singapore Court Raises Drug Trafficker’s Sentence to 34 Years Over Cross-Border Laundering

Singapore’s Court of Appeal has increased Lian Hoe Heng’s prison sentence from 28 years and nine months to 34 years for drug trafficking and money laundering.

Lian coordinated drug deliveries from Malaysia to Singapore and systematically laundered more than S$1.3 million in drug proceeds. The scheme used hundreds of transfers between Singapore accounts before equivalent sums were credited to accounts in Malaysia.

The court dismissed Lian’s appeal and found the original sentences manifestly inadequate. It also rejected his baseless allegations against his former lawyer, noting the need to deter accused persons from misusing criminal proceedings.
