LANDBANK and OFBank Open 211,000+ Accounts Using Real-Time National ID Verification

More than 211,000 accounts have been opened through LANDBANK and Overseas Filipino Bank (OFBank) without customers presenting a physical identification document, one month after the Philippine state-owned banks rolled out National ID-enabled digital onboarding.

LANDBANK disclosed the milestone on 24 August 2026. The service was launched in July and uses real-time identity verification provided by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), allowing customers to open accounts through LANDBANK and OFBank mobile or online onboarding channels without uploading or presenting a physical government-issued ID.

NIDAS becomes the primary digital identity check

LANDBANK, OFBank, the PSA and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) formalised the arrangement through a National ID Authentication Services (NIDAS) Subscription Contract at LANDBANK Plaza in Manila on 14 August.

Under the arrangement, NIDAS is being adopted as the primary proof-of-identity mechanism across the participating banks’ onboarding platforms. The system authenticates customers against the Philippine National ID infrastructure in real time rather than relying on a separately uploaded physical credential.

The capability also applies to OFBank’s branchless digital platform serving overseas Filipinos and their families, extending the identity-verification process beyond domestic account opening.

For financial institutions, the rollout is a practical example of government-backed digital identity being embedded directly into customer onboarding. It can reduce document-handling friction while making the reliability, governance and integration of the underlying identity-authentication service increasingly important to KYC controls.
