Singapore Real Estate AML Training Focuses on CDD, ECDD and STR Obligations

The Singapore Institute of Estate Agents (SIEA) is holding a four-hour classroom course on 26 August 2026 focused on anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing obligations in real estate.

The course, Anti-Money Laundering in Real Estate What You Need To Know (AMLRE), runs from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the SIEA Training Room at 47 Beach Road in Singapore. It is classified as a Prescribed Essentials course under Structured Learning and carries four training hours.

CDD, ECDD and suspicious transaction reporting

SIEA’s official course materials say the programme is designed for estate agents and real estate salespersons and covers the practical application of Singapore’s AML/CFT framework. Topics include the Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act, the Terrorism (Suppression of Financing) Act, relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions and the role of the Financial Action Task Force in setting international standards.

The course also addresses Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Enhanced Customer Due Diligence (ECDD), identifying suspicious transactions and Suspicious Transaction Reporting (STR). Case studies are used to help participants assess risk, conduct compliance checks and decide how to respond when suspicious activity is identified.

SIEA lists Patrick Tan, founder and chief executive officer of Fortis Law Corporation, as the trainer. Tan is an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore and has experience in commercial litigation, dispute resolution, wealth and legacy management, and real estate.

The 26 August session is part of an ongoing SIEA AMLRE programme, with additional sessions scheduled later in 2026. The course is also listed as eligible for UTAP funding.

For Singapore’s property sector, the practical emphasis on CDD, ECDD and STR decision-making reflects the broader regulatory expectation that AML controls should operate as part of day-to-day transaction handling rather than remain only as documented policies.
