Identomat Launches Mercury Identity Verification Upgrade to Reduce Onboarding Friction

Identity-verification provider Identomat has launched a major update to its verification platform, introducing a redesigned end-to-end user experience known as Mercury.

The update covers the full verification journey and adds a redesigned interface, an upgraded Liveness Check, improved document capture and review, cross-device continuation and support for a wider range of document types.

Document and biometric verification changes

Identomat says the new interface provides clearer instructions throughout the process and allows businesses to customise consent screens and guidance. Users can also change language during verification rather than being locked into the choice made at the start.

The biometric stage has been redesigned with clearer progress indicators and additional anti-fraud controls. For document capture, on-device AI can detect and automatically frame identification documents even when they are not centred in the camera view.

A new review stage allows users to check submitted ID images and information extracted by OCR before completing the process, giving them an opportunity to retake images or correct data that could otherwise trigger failed or repeated checks.

Mercury also supports cross-device verification. A user can begin verification on one device and continue on another using a QR code, SMS or email link, or copied URL. Identomat says this is intended to support both remote and face-to-face onboarding.

The update also introduces AnyDoc, which allows businesses to configure verification for documents beyond standard identity documents, including vehicle registration papers, tax identification documents and other use-case-specific records.

Early performance figures

According to Identomat, early partners using the redesigned experience reported a 20% increase in onboarding speed, a 35% reduction in false rejections, a 70% decrease in manual interventions and a 30% reduction in user abandonment. These are company-reported early-use figures rather than independently benchmarked industry results.

Mercury is being rolled out as a configurable theme within the Identomat platform. The update is relevant to financial institutions and other regulated businesses seeking to reduce KYC friction while retaining stronger biometric, document and fraud controls during digital onboarding.
