Korea and Tajikistan FIUs Sign AML/CFT Information-Sharing Agreement

South Korea’s Korea Financial Intelligence Unit (KoFIU) and the Financial Monitoring Department under the National Bank of Tajikistan have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen the exchange of financial intelligence for anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing purposes.

The agreement was signed on 17 September 2026 at the Government Complex Seoul. According to South Korea’s Financial Services Commission, it establishes a cooperation framework between the two financial intelligence units for responding to cross-border money laundering, terrorist financing and other illicit financial flows. The arrangement was pursued in connection with a Korea–Central Asia summit.

KoFIU Commissioner Lee Hyung Ju met National Bank of Tajikistan Chairman Tolibzoda Firdavs during the signing. The Korean authority said the discussions addressed the rapid expansion of transnational organised crime beyond Southeast and Northeast Asia and the growing use of virtual assets and other methods to move and conceal illicit funds while frustrating financial tracing.

KoFIU said financial intelligence exchanged under the MOU is expected to support analysis of suspicious transactions and help both countries trace cross-border criminal proceeds. It also described international cooperation between FIUs as increasingly important as criminal networks use faster and more diverse channels to transfer value across jurisdictions.
